Help your kids “just say, ‘no’”

You may think that drug abuse could never happen in your home. That’s what most parents say; yet we know it happens all the time. Help your kids “just say, ‘no’” by following these proactive parenting tips.

1. Be available
Experts say much of preventing illegal drug use is about being there for your child. When they’re ready to talk, be open-minded and give them your full attention.

2. Talk to your teen
One time is generally not enough. Some parents find it helpful to set up a regular
time to be alone with their teen, so sharing becomes natural.

3. Make your “no tolerance” policy clear
Be specific and clear. No form of illegal drug use will be tolerated.

4. Know where your teens are
Make sure they “hang out” at places where drugs are not likely to be available. Set
curfews and have them check in by phone.

5. Use HairConfirm in-home drug testing

Seem like an extreme measure? Consider this. You’ll make it easier for your teen to say no..”Sorry, I can’t even try once. My parents drug test me regularly.”
