When I got an offer to try a drug testing kit, I jumped at it, not so much because I plan to use it on my girls, but because I plan to let them know that I have it and can use it, which I hope will be just as effective.
I have no reason to believe my girls are using drugs, but I do know that drug use is way more prevalent in high schools now than it was when I was a teenager, particularly marijuana. I know, too, that all the plans you've made about what you will and won't do can change on a dime when you're a teen. Even though I trust my girls, there's no harm in having a little extra incentive not to inhale, right?
This kit tests for the five major illicit drug categories and gives you a 90-day drug history report. You can even tell whether your teen uses the drug occasionally or all the time. All you have to do is cut 90-120 strands of hair from your teenager's head (body hair works, too), ship it to the company, and they'll post your anonymous results online. You can buy a standard test with a postage-paid return envelope inside or an expedited one that includes a Fed Ex label and promises results within a few days, rather than a few weeks. The test can be bought online here. I think it's actually a great idea.
